Aroha and Whanau - Sulia

WA describing aroha in our whanau

My family is always together at home. My family always keeps one another safe.

My dad’s name is Feleti and he loves playing guitar, while my mum, brothers and I sing. We love doing things like this together. My Mum’s name is Judith and she bakes cakes for other people. She usually gives cakes to my teachers at the end of the year.

My brothers love playing at home but sometimes they play at the wrong time. Their names are Kava and Theo. Theo loves drawing and making crafts with paper. Kava likes gaming and watching youtube at home.

We all love spending time together like going to restaurants and then playing at the park or going back home for a movie night.

I know that I am loved because my parents tell me how much they love me. I think that they love me because I work hard at school and always help my brothers.

My favourite whanau saying is: “There’s no place like home.”

My favourite aroha symbol is:

Water Awareness

On the 8th of June it was the first day for water awareness lessons. Mrs Agnew said that we were going to be swimming for ten days and that we are going to the CLM swimming pool in Morrin Rd. But then she said that the boys were going first after morning tea and the juniors as well but the rest of the girls would be going after lunch and the girls also has to have early lunch before we left.

Later on we had to change and have lunch and hop on to the bus. Once we got onto the bus, of course we started talking but wished that we could sing a song. We were all too shy to start singing so we just kept on talking to our friends.

Once we got to the swimming pool we saw the juniors there because they hadn't finished yet with their swimming. When it was our turn we had to split into groups. The people in my group were Estherose, Upu, Laura, Frances, Jamie and Nikita.

We had to go to water awareness lessons because if we get stuck in the ocean we need to know what to do because it is very dangerous out there. Many people drown in New Zealand every year.  We learned how to kick with our legs straight and on top the water instead of kicking under the water with bent legs. We started off with some floating blue boards that kept our arms straight and we could hold onto once we had used our arms.

After our swimming lessons we would go back to school and get dried, warm and ready to go home. We had to hang our togs and towels on the wires. It was so exciting and fun and I felt so joyful and happy for the next day's trip to the pool.

Revealing my feelings through Art

A few weeks ago I created my self portrait. I started off by sketching face lines in the middle of my face outline. I first drew my eyes, ears, mouth and nose. Next I had to draw my hair, colour my skin with skin toned colours from other classes.

When I was  done colouring my skin, I drew my uniform. After I finished my self portrait I did my background using white wax crayon on a blank white sheet of paper. I was explaining feelings using art because when I finished drawing feeling lines, I dyed my background blue so that I could see my lines clearly which shows my feelings I have.

My action and feeling blurb that I like is "When I feel thrilled, I jump and shake uncontrollably."

1. Later on I  wrote blurbs about my feelings and actions. These are my blurbs, When I feel thrilled, I shake and jump uncontrollably.

2. When I feel frustrated, I tap my fingers on my head.

3. When I feel anxious, my cheeks get as red as a cherry.

Once I was  done Mrs Agnew hanged it up in our class room.

I felt so happy with the results of my self portraits.

The chicks in Room 6

Last term Joe from a chick company called Living Eggs came to our class and told us that we would be hosting eleven eggs in our class room for only to weeks. We were all so excited for them to hatch. The eggs were 19 days and this told us that after two day they would start to hatch or start pipping their way out of the eggs.

The next day the eggs were not pipping and we were all so sad but we were very patient. The following day we were rewarded because after morning tea we spotted a tiny little crack on the side of an egg. The next day I was so excited to go to school and I have never been so excited to go to school before.

When I went to school I saw everybody gathered around my class room and they looked so excited and happy. When my friend Maddy saw me she told me that some of the eggs have hatched, so I ran so excitedly and hanged my bag at the bag area. I burst through the door with happiness and saw the little chicks.

In class time we asked Mrs Agnew our teacher if we could hold them today but she said tomorrow because they had just hatched. We were sad but we went to the library to see St Johns and learn how to take care of our selves. When we came back the rest of the eggs were hatched and they were so cute. We had to wait until they become fluffy and soft before we could move them from the incubator to the brooder.

The next day we were happy, joyful and contented because we got to hold the chicks. After we did our diary of the chicks we got to hold the chicks again but only six

people can hold them at a time and the rest had to wait patiently behind their chairs. They felt so soft, fluffy, warm, woolly and fuzzy. After two weeks Jo came back to take the chicks back to their mums and dads. We were getting a bit emotional and sad. We sadly said goodbye and went back to work.

My second Art Colouring

I chose this picture because it reminds me of adventures. I really like how the sky is bright and blue and It also reminds me of going to church and receiving my own bible at church.
